Busyness, Finding Balance in a Fast-Paced World
In today's fast-paced world, it's easy to get caught up in busyness. We often find ourselves juggling multiple tasks, responsibilities, and commitments, leaving us feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. But as Christians, we're called to prioritize our relationship with God and find balance in our lives. We also should be placing God first in our lives and when we prioritize our relationship with God, we will soon find that we are resting in His peace even in the midst of busyness, Psalm 91:1; Isaiah 40:31; Matthew 6:33; Matthew 11:28; Philippians 4:6.
Reflection
- Are you feeling overwhelmed by busyness? Take a step back and prioritize your relationship with God. Spend time in prayer, reading Scripture, and studying God’s word seeking His guidance. Psalm 94:19; Isaiah 41:10; Psalm 61:2; 2 Corinthians 1:8-11; Mark 6:31; Isaiah 46:4.
- Are there areas in your life where you can simplify and find more balance? Consider saying no to non-essential commitments and focusing on what's truly important. Sometimes our commitments were for a season and we have continued with them when we shouldn’t be Ecclesiastes 3:1. We should be certain that our activities, commitments and goals are set up for the right reasons and fall true to what it says in Colossians 3:17.
- Remember that God is in control, and He can handle your burdens. Bring your worries and concerns to Him and trust in His provision and care. Romans 12:12; Psalm 55:22; 1 Peter 5:7. Loving God as it says in Luke 10:27 should tip the scales in our lives. Our love for God and for the things of God should be stronger than any other force in our lives. Our love for God should drive us to walk in obedience, even when life seems out of control, difficult and out of balance.
Action Step
Trust in the fact that while we may make plans it is Gods purpose that will stand Proverbs 16:9. Take a few minutes each day to pause, breathe, and focus on God's presence in your life. Set aside time to pray and lay your heart out to God. Reflect on Scripture, establish a time to study His word. Consider finding a source to take part in a bible study. Find a good church and attend their midweek bible study services and their Sunday school class. It is so helpful to take advantage of all that the local church offers to assist us to grow as a Christian. We never stop learning about God’s word or growing in our relationship with Him. It sure helps when we enjoy a rich time of study into God’s word alongside our fellow brothers and sisters whenever we have the opportunity throughout the week. If you want to develop a daily time of bible study you can set aside a specific time each day to open your bible, pray for God to bring you clarity and understanding of what you read. Perhaps use good study bible notes, a reliable commentary and/or bible dictionary to aid in understanding your bible reading. There are also books about studying the bible. You can read reviews and even ask your pastor or other trusted Christians for suggestions. There are different bible reading plans available online that help us to steadily go through the bible in a scheduled time frame. There are Facebook groups and YouTube channels that focus on guiding others in a study through the books of the bible. Make certain your choices are solidly based on God’s word and that the leaders of these are ones you trust focus their teaching appropriately on God’s word.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to prioritize my relationship with You and find balance in my life. Give me wisdom to discern what's truly important and the courage to say no to things that distract me from You. Help me to know the proper resources to use as I study your word and Lord give me clarity, discernment with an understanding of how to apply what I read to my life. I ask these things in the powerful and precious name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
